Ken Loach's latest film tells the story of TJ Ballantyne, the owner of a bar that is threatened with closure due to financial problems. The story begins with the arrival of Syrian refugees in his village. TJ forms an unexpected relationship with Yara, a young Syrian refugee. This budding friendship develops despite the tensions and prejudices that exist in their community. The film revolves around the concept of solidarity, which is exemplified by the phrase "When you eat together, you stick together". Syrian refugees have settled in a village in the north of England devastated by the tragic collapse of a local mine. With the arrival of the refugees, the disastrous economic situation in the village worsens, further increasing tensions between the local residents and the newcomers.
Nominated for the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival, nominated for the BAFTA Film Award and the Audience Award at the Locarno Film Festival.
